Nature Ecology & Evolution, 1-9. This is the first paper demonstrating that soil health is positively linked to primary productivity at a large (European) scale. Soil health was calculated based on a composite index of various soil characteristics including soil fertility, the inverse of plant pathogen richness and some soil microbial diversity indicators. Work performed by our former Postdoc Ferran Romero.

(2023) Soil microbiome indicators can predict crop growth response to large-scale inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. Nature Microbiology 8: 2277–2289. In over 50 field experiments performed in multiple years we show that arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi can promote plant yield in the field. We could successfully predict field inoculation success and crop yield stimulation using soil microbiome indicators (e.g. the presence of soil fungal pathogens).
